Electrical & Electronics
Our experts develop electronic systems such as the control units required by the electric drives of tailgates or doors. By simulating mechatronic systems, we model concepts for control units and develop them in preparation for use in standard vehicles, and also for special-purpose vehicles and exhibits. In addition, we adapt existing systems to new applications, perform control unit parameterization, carry out software updates, and create diagnostic interfaces.
Moreover, Semcon sets up specific inspection and testing systems and conducts analyses of control units, electric and electronic systems, or complete vehicles. On behalf of a major system supplier, we recently developed a test system for a door control unit which can test 2,000 units a day and subject them to an exacting quality inspection. The test values permit detection of discrepancies and localization of sources of error. Another test system we designed and developed is to validate voltage- and power distribution boxes of a large-volume car model.
Since the functions of individual electronic components and their linkage into a complete system have to be controlled in such a way that this overall system operates without disruption, we round off our range of services with the establishment and operation of networking companies to handle startup, troubleshooting and model refinement for vehicular electric platforms.
Professional project management also is one of the duties of the Electrics and Electronics business area segment. We offer the complete spectrum from system design, through system implementation and the performance of all necessary tests, to the launch of the product. This enables us to take on the complete handling of a project – like the Ford Visos. As requested by Ford our specialists developed a number of innovations for the concept study: A software surface, developed in-house, for a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) which controls things like the automatic doors by means of a radio interface (Bluetooth) or hard- and software for a drive control unit that operates the extendable spoiler, the gear stick and many other applications.
The Electrics & Electronics department combines different areas such as hardware/software development, HIL systems, development of wiring harnesses, measuring engineering, data acquisition and driver assistance- and information systems to achieve best results in complex projects. One example is the development of three control units for a Bentley luxury convertible for which we also assume series logistics.
